Yvonne Lefebvre

Dr. Yvonne Lefebvre is the Vice President of Research and Academic Affairs at Providence Health Care and President of the Providence Health Care Research Institute (Vancouver).  She is also an Assistant Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia and Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Brtish Columbia.

Dr. Lefebvre's research focus is steroid hormone action in breast and prostate cancer, as well as in lymphoma and leukemia.  She has had a longstanding interest in gender and equity issues in health research and education, and has published in this area as well.

In June 1997, Dr. Lefebvre received the Ottawa YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Research and Development and, in September 1999, the J. David Grimes Award for Scientific Achievement from LHRI.  In 2003, she was elected to membership in the Canadian Institute of Academic Medicine, and in 2005, she was inducted into the Canadaian Academy of Health Sciences

B. Lynn Beattie, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Lynn Beattie has been with the Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence as its Scientific Director on a part-time basis since 2007. She is Professor Emeritus, Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine, UBC.  Her current clinical interests are practise at the UBC Hospital Clinic for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (UBCH CARD).  In addition, she has been involved with a number of research activities.  These have recently included the multi centre Canadian Quality of Life in AD Study, a number of clinical trials in AD, a look at psychological resilience and well-being of spousal caregivers of persons with dementia, development of psychosocial indicators of oral health-related quality of life in three ethnic groups, genetic epidemiological study of AD, brain power, resistance training and cognitive function in older women. She was on the Board of the Alzheimer Society of Canada as Chair of the Research Policy Committee and has recently completed her term as Secretary Treasurer of C5R, the Consortium of Canadian Centres for Clinical Cognitive Research. 

 

In the past Dr. Beattie started and was the first Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at UBC, initially based at Shaughnessy Hospital and in later years at Vancouver Coastal UBC/VGH.  She was Director of the Clinic for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders from its inception until 2005, and again from 2009 to date.  She is Past President of the American Geriatrics Society and the Canadian Geriatrics Society.  She is the proud mother of Dr Heather McArthur, medical oncologist and Dr John McArthur, economist and commutes regularly to New York City where they live.
