Dr. S. F. Paul Man, VP Research and Academic Affairs

Dr. S. F. Paul Man was appointed vice president of Research & Academic Affairs at Providence Health Care and President of the Providence Health Care Research Institute in July 2016.

Dr. Man joined St Paul’s Hospital as Head of Medicine and Physician-In-Chief in 2004. He is also a Professor and Deputy Head, Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. As a respirologist, he has a research interest in airway disease, and his research in HIV associated lung disease is funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

Dr. Man received his undergraduate and MD training at the University of Alberta, later completed his residency training in internal medicine and respiratory diseases at the University of Toronto and a research fellowship at the University of Toronto and the Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining St. Paul’s Hospital, his academic appointments at the University of Alberta included Division Director in Respiratory Medicine, Associate Chair in the Department of Medicine, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Research. He was a McCalla Professor. Dr. Man was Chief Examiner in Respiratory Diseases of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He was President of the Canadian Thoracic Society, Governor of the American College of Chest Physicians (Alberta), and Governor of the American College of Physicians (British Columbia). He was elected to the Canadian Academy of Professors of Medicine, and later became a member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
